Application Process:
Step 1: Either contact the VISTA at the school where you want to volunteer or print out our volunteer application form and send it to us. A VISTA will contact you.
Step 2: Background check. Every volunteer is screened. You will be given a background check form to complete. When the check is completed, we begin the process of matching you with a student.
Step 3: Training. Each volunteer is trained on procedures from where to sign in, to documenting time spent with a child. We also give you tips for working with students in different subject areas and grade levels.
Step 4: Mentor! Experience the joy of helping a child!
Click here for the Mentoring/Tutoring Program Applications. Please fille out all three parts and return to Hart Partners/CIS of Hart County at 110 Benson Street. Hartwell, Ga 30643.
Application Part 1
Q: I want to be a volunteer what should I do?
A: Contact CIS of Hart County or the schools, we will get you connected!
Q: I work during the day, but I still want to help, are there volunteer opportunities for me?
A: Yes! We have many opportunities for volunteers to assist us outside of school. We can add your name to a pool of volunteers we can can contact as needed.
Q: I showed up at my school, but no one was there...
A: The school schedule has changed! Check the 2012-2013 school calendar / 2013-2014 school calendar for days off. Also, check with teachers for field trip schedules and special events.
Q: What do I do with my student?
A: Most of our volunteers work with students one on one to improve reading and math skills. Every volunteer is given an Academic Mentor Training Handbook, which offers tips and tricks for working with students.
Volunteers receive no salary, not because they are worthless, but because they are priceless!
